Greenville, N.C. BMX film to be released
"Pro Town: Greenville," a new BMX documentary produced by former Ride BMX editor and photographer Mark Losey, will be debuting the trailer for the film on Monday, November 29, with a worldwide premiere on January 7, 2011 to follow.
The film, a documentary featuring interviews with BMX pros in the Greenville, N.C. area, depicts how the town grew into a BMX mecca for pros throughout the world. The 45-minute movie includes current and archival footage and photographs, plus interviews with Dave Mirra, Ryan Nyquist, Colin Mackay, Ryan Guettler, Rob Darden, Allan Cooke, Josh Harrington, and many more. To date, Greenville's BMX accolades include 34 professional locals, 21 X Games Gold Medals and countless other contest wins.
As the former editor/photographer for Ride BMX Magazine, producer Mark Losey documented the evolving Greenville, N.C. BMX scene from its early years in the mid '90s, coining the name "Pro Town" in the March 2001 issue of Ride.
"Greenville has been fascinating to me ever since I first went there in'98 to shoot an interview with Dave [Mirra] for Ride. That much talent in such a small town is a compelling story, but there are so many more great stories wrapped up with it," says Losey regarding the film. "It's something I wanted to do for a long time, and I finally said that 2010 was the year it happened."
Unfortunately, the concentration of so many pros in such a small area proved to be difficult during the editing process.
"I wound up with so much great content that the hardest part was deciding what wouldn't go into the 44-minute film. There were times when I had piles of old video tapes covering my kitchen table from all the contributors, and every tape had footage that would blow you away," says Losey.
Contributors on the film include BMX film makers Glenn PP Milligan, Will Stroud and Mark Eaton, plus longtime Greenville resident Don Wigent, Haro BMX pros Colin Mackay and Ryan Nyquist, and many more.
The film's sponsors include Monster Energy, Mirraco Bikes, Haro BMX and Ride BMX Magazine. Release info, as well as background information about the film, are available on the "Pro Town: Greenville" Web site.
