Ragan narrowly beats teammate Edwards for O'Reilly 300 pole

FORT WORTH, Texas -- David Ragan earned his first NASCAR
Busch Series pole Thursday night, edging Roush Racing teammate and
series points leader Carl Edwards.

Ragan ran a lap of 191.063 mph on the 1-mile, high-banked Texas
track, nearly 2 mph faster than Edwards, who qualified second for
the O'Reilly 300 on Saturday.

The fifth of 44 drivers who tried to qualify, Edwards posted an
early lap of 189.354 mph. That looked as if it would hold, with
nobody getting any closer Casey Mears at 187.872 mph until Ragan
took the track 34th.

Edwards has dominated the Busch Series, winning twice and
finishing in the top 10 all seven races. He has a 321-point lead
over second-place Dave Blaney, who crashed before posting a
qualifying time and will start 42nd in the 43-car field.

The top six starting spots are filled with Nextel Cup regulars,
with Kyle Busch starting third, followed by Mears, Kasey Kahne and
Denny Hamlin. David Reutimann, Mark Martin, Jeff Burton and Matt
Kenseth completed the top 10.
