The good news is Miami Dolphins rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill practiced on Wednesday.

The bad news is Tannehill was limited because of his left knee and quad injury.

The Miami Herald reports Tannehill split time under center Wednesday with backup quarterback Matt Moore during the open session of practice. The Dolphins probably won’t know Tannehill's status until later in the week.

On Sunday, Tannehill sounded optimistic about returning for Miami’s next game against the Indianapolis Colts. He said he hyperextended his knee and suffered a bruised quad.

However, it’s always in a player’s nature to think they can play. It’s going to be up to the Dolphins’ medical staff to see how Tannehill progresses during the week. But the fact that Tannehill is practicing on a limited basis is good progress.
