Here are some notes at intermission:
It’s been a great first half for special teams. Buffalo defensive back Leodis McKelvin got things starting with a 79-yard punt return, and Miami backup tailback Marcus Thigpen answered with a 96-yard kickoff return. Including field goals, special teams have accounted for all 26 points in the first half.
The Dolphins are struggling again on offense. The offensive line is struggling against with pass and run blocking. Buffalo’s defense is doing a good job feeding off the energy of the home crowd. The Dolphins are 0-for-5 on third down.
Bills tailback C.J. Spiller is doing well in a national game. Spiller is shifty and eluding tacklers. He has 107 total yards in the game. Spiller is getting more opportunities with starter Fred Jackson out with a concussion.
Buffalo defensive end Mario Williams is having another good game. Williams dominated rookie offensive tackle Jonathan Martin for a second-quarter sack and has two tackles for a loss. The Dolphins’ offensive line needs to get Martin some assistance on the right side.
It’s also not a good first half for Dolphins cornerback Nolan Carroll. He’s been flagged three times in the first half -- two for pass interference and one for illegal contact. Miami is thin at corner and Buffalo is wasting no time testing the Dolphins’ secondary.
