Philbin sheds little light on Mike Pouncey

10/28/2013

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Miami Dolphins are a team with growing issues. They are currently on a four-game losing streak and now have a legal situation involving starting center Mike Pouncey.

Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin wasn’t willing to shed much light on Pouncey. The veteran center was reportedly served a subpoena Sunday following Miami’s 27-17 loss to the New England Patriots.

Authorities in Massachusetts want to question Pouncey and his friendship with Aaron Hernandez, who is facing multiple criminal charges. Pouncey has not been charged with any crimes.

“We’re obviously aware of the reports regarding Mike, and consistent with my response is it’s a non-football related matter,” Philbin said. “So I have nothing further to say.”

Philbin was questioned several times about Pouncey on Monday, but continued to stick to the script. The Dolphins' organization also refused comment when asked by ESPN.com Sunday night.

Miami (3-4) has a short week with a Thursday game against the Cincinnati Bengals (6-2). Pouncey’s legal situation has the potential to be a distraction if this continues to linger.

“Our team is focused on Cincinnati,” Philbin said. “We just had our meetings. We’re installing our game plan and we’re focused on the Bengals.”
