A weekly examination of the Steelers' ESPN.com Power Ranking:
Preseason: 16 | Last week: No. 29 | ESPN.com Power Ranking since 2002
The bye week didn't cost the Steelers any ground in the rankings. Not that they can drop much further, and they still rank ahead of only the Giants, Buccaneers and Jaguars. Only the Giants have been more of a disappointment than the Steelers; the former fell to 0-5 after losing to the Eagles on Sunday. Here is a voting breakdown:
Ashley Fox: 29
Mike Sando: 29
Kevin Seifert: 30
John Clayton: 29
Dan Graziano: 29
Jamison Hensley: 29
The Steelers' dismal start hasn't sapped the team's confidence. Free safety Ryan Clark said this about the postseason chances: "I feel like with where our division is, where we are, the games we have remaining, that we have a good chance of being a playoff team." First things first: The Steelers have to get that elusive first victory. What appeared to be a winnable game at the start of the season suddenly looks a lot more daunting. The Steelers visit the New York Jets on Sunday, and the Jets are coming off a 30-28 upset of the Atlanta Falcons. At 3-2, they are one of the early surprises in the NFL.
