Chiefs lose valuable time with Geno Smith

West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith announced he will bypass the Senior Bowl.

Players who do that usually do so because they don’t think they can enhance their draft stock during the week. Smith is wildly considered the top quarterback prospect in the draft. The Kansas City Chiefs have the No. 1 pick and they badly need a quarterback. The Chiefs could conceivably draft Smith at No. 1 if they feel comfortable with him.

They’d probably rather see ands spend time with Smith during the Senior Bowl week than missing out on that evaluation time. For teams scouting Smith, the combine in February and Smith’s individual Pro Day will be paramount now that he is skipping the Senior Bowl.

Again, I get why Smith is made his decision, but for a player who needs to have a strong draft season to be picked No. 1, Smith needs to nail every opportunity ahead of him.
