BOSTON -- Despite the fact that Rich Peverley has skated on a line with Jaromir Jagr and Chris Kelly the last two days (in practice Friday and at Saturday's game-day skate), both Peverley and Bruins coach Claude Julien were noncommittal about whether Peverley would be in the lineup for Game 2 Saturday night at TD Garden. If Peverley plays, he would replace Kaspars Daugavins on the third line.
“I’d like to [play] but I want to contribute in a way to let the other guys do their job,” Peverley said Saturday after being a healthy scratch for Game 1 on Thursday. “They played such a great game the other night, so if I am playing -- and I don’t know yet -- so hopefully I can do something.”
Peverley is yet to play with Jagr, but is looking forward to benefiting from the future hall of famer’s puck-possession skills.
“He’s a big body and he’s pretty hard to knock of the puck -- probably one of the hardest guys in the league to knock off the puck,” Peverley said. “He’s really good at it; he’s really good at making quick turns and taking the puck to the net. Hopefully I can just get open for him.”
Julien also wasn’t letting on as to whether 19-year-old rookie defenseman Dougie Hamilton would replace suspended veteran Andrew Ference on the blue line and make his Stanley Cup playoff debut. Hamilton skated with Wade Redden at practice Friday and during the skate Saturday.
Julien stressed that there is still a chance that Matt Bartkowski, who has been playing for Providence in the AHL playoffs, could be in the lineup and make his Stanley Cup playoffs debut. But did say he is confident Hamilton could handle the pressure of the playoffs just fine.
“We still have to make the decision between him and Bartkowski for tonight,” Julien said. “If he is in, I think he’s handled his first NHL game extremely well, I wouldn’t see it being a problem if that was the case.”
Here’s a look at what the lineup could look like for Game 2 if Peverley and Hamilton play:
