The Boston Celtics recalled rookie center Fab Melo from the Maine Red Claws of the D-League on Monday.

The move is somewhat of a surprise given that Boston appears healthy, while Melo has been battling a strained quadriceps. With the Claws not in action until Friday night and Boston set to practice on Tuesday, it could be an opportunity to get Melo some some reps (and treatment) with the parent club that's thin on pure size after the departure of Darko Milicic last month.

Melo averaged 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 23.4 minutes over five games for the Red Claws.

Celtics rookie forward Kris Joseph has been bouncing back-and-forth from Maine since originally being assigned last month.
