BOSTON -- Boston Celtics rookie forward Jared Sullinger left Wednesday's game against the Sacramento Kings after just four minutes of floor time due to back spasms and will not return, according to the team.

Sullinger appeared to tweak his back on the defensive end and motioned to the Boston bench to take him out. He was replaced by Brandon Bass with 7:52 to play in the first quarter.

Sullinger fell to Boston with the 21st overall pick in June's draft due to red flags about his back. This is the first time this season the back has been a cause for concern.

The team initially dubbed Sullinger's return as "likely" while he iced his back and met with team physician Dr. Brian McKeon. Later in the first half, he was ruled out.

Sullinger was averaging 6.1 points and 6 rebounds over 20.2 minutes per game in 44 appearances this season. He had started Boston's last two games, replacing Bass at the power forward spot.
