Grousbeck on Buss: 'Brilliant competitor'
"I had the pleasure of working with Jerry closely for the last 10 years on league matters. He was a wonderful business colleague, brilliant competitor and became a good friend. Although our teams competed in two Finals during that time, the friendship never wavered. He will be greatly missed and the entire Celtics organization offers condolences to the Buss family and Lakers organization."
Grousbeck also appeared on ESPN Radio Monday afternoon and spoke highly of Buss and the strong relationship between rival owners. Hop HERE to listen to the podcast. For more on the passing of Buss, hop HERE.
Grousbeck did field one question on the Celtics and the approaching deadline during his radio appearance, suggesting he'd be content if this team didn't make any moves, even as rumors fly about whether Boston would trade veterans while looking to the future.
"I’m very, very proud of this team and glad to be involved this team as it currently stands," said Grousbeck. "I really like the way they play. We’ve got a general manager [Danny Ainge] whose job it is to think short term and long term. His phone rings all the time, it’s people calling him. Then he talks to me and my partners about what he might want to do. But there’s nothing to report at the moment, and I’d be delighted to have the team stay this way just as it is, because I like watching them play. I wish we hadn’t lost [Rajon] Rondo and [Jared] Sullinger and [Leandro] Barbosa, but we did. So that’s where we stand. And it’s going to be a busy week, but it may well be that nothing happens."
