Report: Clippers back away from KG talks
The Celtics and Clippers have been involved in trade rumors for weeks, with a Garnett for Bledsoe and Jordan swap serving as the focus of many of the rumors. While Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has downplayed his desire to trade Garnett -- who has a no-trade clause in his contract -- the Yahoo! Sports report suggests that Boston has been trying to make the deal happen, and the Clippers have now backed off. According to the report, the Clippers won't pursue further conversations with the Celtics unless All-Star point guard Chris Paul pushes for them.
Additionally, the report states that Boston won't seek any deal with the Clippers that doesn't involve Bledsoe and Jordan, and that if the Celtics were able to get Garnett to waive his no-trade clause, they would seek to trade Paul Pierce as well, possibly in a package for Atlanta Hawks forward (and Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo's best friend) Josh Smith.
Ainge told reporters in Denver on Tuesday that the Celtics are "unlikely" to make any kind of deadline deal, noting that he likes the team he has in place and could add to it with free-agent pieces.
"There's been a lot of conversation around the league and we've been very busy," Ainge told the Boston Herald prior to the Celtics' 97-90 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. "Trades are very challenging to make, and then on top of that we like our guys. I like watching this team play, I like the personality of our team. We just need to find a way to give them the best chance to win with the resources we have."
