The Golden State Warriors formally announced the hiring of former Celtics fan favorite Brian Scalabrine on Wednesday, wrestling him away from his local broadcasting duties to be an assistant on coach Mark Jackson's staff for an up-and-coming team.

From the Warriors' press release:
Scalabrine played in the NBA for 11 seasons from 2001-02 to 2011-12, appearing in 520 regular-season games and 39 playoff contests with the New Jersey Nets, Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls. Originally selected by the Nets with the 35th overall pick in the 2001 NBA Draft out of USC, Scalabrine averaged 3.1 points and 2.0 rebounds in 13.0 minutes per game during his NBA career. After playing his final season with the Chicago Bulls in 2011-12, Scalabrine worked as a television analyst for CSN New England during the 2012-13 campaign.

Scalabrine is reunited with Darren Erman, who previously served as a coaching assistant in Boston and is also on Jackson's staff.

As for the move, we probably should have seen it coming. Doc Rivers sure did. During an appearance on ESPN Radio in Chicago back in March 2011, Rivers said, "Scal is going to be a hell of a coach. He’s in the same spot I was in at the same point in his career, and all he says is, ‘No, I’m going to do TV. I’m going to do radio.’ And I just shake my head, sure Scal. Scalabrine, mark my words, will be an NBA coach, and a good one."
