BOSTON -- The Red Sox have been waiting for Felix Doubront to take that next step and become a more trustworthy starter. Farrell feels as if Doubront is headed in that direction as he prepares to start Sunday’s series finale against Cleveland.

“He and [pitching coach Juan Nieves] did some work in the bullpen just to get his lower half in line,” Farrell said. “It’s freed him up as far as creating a little bit more arm speed. There’s been greater finish to his stuff through the strike zone. The game in Chicago [on Tuesday] I think he just built upon what he started in Tampa, and the most important thing is the way he speaks when you ask questions to him. The confidence he shows, I think, is some insight into how he feels about himself and the adjustments that have been made.

“I think he and Juan are onto something here and hopefully that continues to build.”

Doubront was skipped in the rotation midway through the month after going 0-1 with a 12.00 ERA in his first two May outings. He has allowed four runs on eight hits in 11 frames since the side work with Nieves increased.
