Buchholz set for simulated game

August, 17, 2013
BOSTON -- After throwing his second successful bullpen session this week on Saturday, Clay Buchholz is scheduled to work a simulated game Wednesday during the club's next road trip to San Francisco.

"Yeah, today was good," Buchholz said of his 60-pitch session. "More intense today, more pitches. Everything went good."

Buchholz has been increasing the intensity and number of pitches in his bullpen sessions. On Saturday, a batter stood in the box as Buchholz threw.

"He feels confident he's making steady progress here," Red Sox manager John Farrell said.

After experiencing multiple setbacks in his recovery from neck and shoulder injuries, Buchholz could begin a rehab assignment if all goes well in the simulated game.
