Regional Road Trip: Four cities in four days
People! I am now embarking on a cross-country four-NCAA-sites-in-five days multimedia cannonball run. Will be chatting at 11 ET tomorrow.— Eamonn Brennan (@eamonnbrennan) March 27, 2013
What if, beginning tomorrow and ending Sunday, you could travel anywhere in these United States?
If you're reading this, I bet I know what you would do: You would visit every NCAA tournament site: four days; four regionals; four cities.
You would go west to Los Angeles to see Ohio State try to get past Arizona; swing south and buy your ticket for the Jerryworld ride; head due east and watch Indiana, Syracuse, Miami and Marquette vie for a chance at the Final Four in the shadow of the U.S. Capitol; and end in the heartland, in hoops-obsessed Indianapolis, where Louisville continues its laser-eyed Final Four mission.
That's what I would do. Ahem: That's what I am doing.
I get to play out the college basketball fan's ultimate deep-REM-sleep fantasy: a five-day sojourn to all four NCAA tournament regional sites. Flying tubes with wings attached to their sides (crazy, right?) will deliver me to the Staples Center Thursday, Cowboys Stadium Friday, the Verizon Center Saturday and Lucas Oil Stadium Sunday.
And the best part of all? I want you come with me.
I can't offer you a series of plane tickets, you can't crash on my hotel floor, and yes, I need my press pass. (Sorry.) What I can offer you, however, is hopefully an all-encompassing, all-day-everyday composite view of what it is to be at the NCAA tournament on the penultimate weekend of the college basketball season.
And I'm not just talking about the arena experience; you can get nacho cheese with your pretzel anywhere. No, I want to spend as much time hanging out with fans in local joints as players in locker rooms. I'd rather hear how far you traveled and why, how you managed to sweat-proof that body paint, and if there's a good place to talk hoop over barbecue. For at least one weekend, I don't want to be a college basketball analyst; I want to be a college hoops ecologist.
I'll be tweeting and checking in and taking pictures and sending videos and making Vines and — most importantly — chatting with you throughout each day, where I will be constantly soliciting recommendations from you on where I need to be at any given moment in each of the four regional cities.
Drop a question, comment or suggestion in each day’s chat, or use the hashtag #mymadness to connect with me on my travels and send me your gameday photos. I need your help. This thing won't work without you.
That help begins tomorrow, at 11 a.m. ET, when we'll have our first live chat of the weekend. I'll check in from L.A. and will fill you in on some of the details and particulars of what we’ll be doing.
We'll also brainstorm how I should spend my day, you'll let me know if you're hanging with a particularly fun group of people at a particularly delicious and/or TV-appointed establishment, I'll weigh my options, and we'll go from there. Deal? Cool.
See you guys in L.A. … then Arlington … then Washington D.C. … and finally, Indianapolis.
Many more details to come, but in the meantime send me travel ideas and LA spots and hashtag it #mymadness. Pledge allegiance to the grind.— Eamonn Brennan (@eamonnbrennan) March 27, 2013
