ATLANTA -- Linebacker Juwon Young (Albany, Ga./Albany) does not have any offers right now, but the 6-foot-2, 230-pound standout is expecting one top SEC school to extend him one soon.
“I am hearing from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee -- a lot of D1 schools,” Young said. “Florida; they are going to pull the trigger. It is going to mean a lot to me. I worked hard to get it.”
Young recently competed in the Rising Seniors Bowl where he faced some of the Peach State’s top offensive talents.
“I played outside linebacker even though I could play inside too,” Young said. “Florida wants me at the buck, like a rushing outside end so I will be rushing the passer. Auburn wants me as an inside or outside linebacker.”
Some of the top programs in the South are trying to build a relationship with Young. When asked who had the best approach to that process, Young answered that it was the Gators coaching staff.
“I would say Florida has the best approach,” Young said. “They inbox me on Facebook every other day saying, ‘Go Gators!’ Georgia doesn’t really have a strong approach. They say maybe a little stuff but they don’t really inform me on the school and stuff like that. Auburn informs me a lot. They were telling me, ‘We will get you prepared for the NFL even though you might not make it they will get you prepared for it.’ ”
Daily or monthly messages won’t be enough to sway Young though since he is looking for something more than a friendly staff.
“My decision is going to be based on academics,” Young said. “Do they have they have my major and is the school a fit for me, coaches and all?”
