GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Now that signing day is complete, it's time to dive in to the GatorNation recruiting mailbag and answer the questions you want to know. Because of the amount of questions we’ve received, we won’t be able to get to all of them today, but we encourage you to ask your questions on our Insider fan forum, The Chompions Club.
Scot5013: Is Sony Michel really liking UF, or just recruiting talk?
A: Michel is a big-time prospect and has five-star potential. He mentioned on Facebook on Monday that Florida is in his top five along with Miami (Fla), Georgia, Notre Dame and Florida State. However, Michel said in a story by DawgNation's Kipp Adams on Tuesday that Alabama, not Florida, was in his top five along with the other schools mentioned on Facebook.
UPDATE: Michel said today that he inadvertently mentioned Alabama while talking to Adams, and that he instead meant to include Florida, and he added details of what he likes about the Gators.
mackmclaughlin: How pumped should I be to read reports about the junior day this weekend? Anybody you think will commit during or within the week?
A: There will be some top talent on campus this weekend, but I don't believe there will be the same results as last year. Florida landed six commits during its junior day last year, but only three eventually stuck. The Gators also had a lot more open scholarships available. This year I believe Florida can and will be a little more selective when taking commitments so early. Would it surprise me to see one or two this year? No, but I certainly don't think you will see six like last year. Here are some of the notable players expected to visit this weekend: Linebacker Dillon Bates, running back Tony James, defensive end Justin Thornton, defensive back J.C. Jackson and running back D'ernest Johnson. There are likely to be more big names added to the list as the week continues.
hilldw11: What are the most important positions that Florida will need to fill for the 2014 class?
A: Florida met a lot of its needs this year, but there were a few places the Florida coaching staff would liked to have added more depth. After Jordan Reed left for the NFL, there is now a glaring need at tight end. Weakside defensive end is another area the Gators would like to add more depth. Middle linebacker, cornerback, fullback and wide receiver are other positions that will likely be addressed in the upcoming class.
kendallland1: Realistically, who are the top UF targets at running back for 2014?
A: Florida landed two of the top backs in Florida for the 2013 class with Kelvin Taylor and Adam Lane. For 2014 Michel was already mentioned above, but Florida also likes Clemson commit Dalvin Cook and uncommitted backs Leonard Fournette, Myles Autry, Adam Choice, Nick Chubb, Jalen Hurd, Tony James and Racean Thomas. Running back is a deep position in the southeast, and Florida will likely add one or two this year.
epowell82: [D.J.] Durkin 2012, [Travaris Robinson] T-Rob 2013, which coach wins recruiter of the year for 2014?
A: A case could have been made for Brian White in 2012-2013. I think he is next in line to make a big impact as a recruiter this year. Georgia is once again loaded with talent, and that is his primary recruiting area. White helped Florida land six players from Georgia this past year, including wide receivers Demarcus Robinson and Marqui Hawkins.
