Texas Rangers left-handed starter Matt Harrison was named the club's 2012 pitcher of the year by the local chapter of the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Harrison, 27, was 18-11 with a 3.29 ERA in 32 starts in 2012. He was third in the American League in wins and complete games (four) and was seventh with 213 1/3 innings pitched. The 18 victories tied a club-record for wins by a lefty (Kenny Rogers, 2004) and he was just the second Texas player to have at least 18 wins and an ERA of 3.30 or less in the same season, joining Ferguson Jenkins (1974 and 1978).

Harrison will receive his award at the Dr Pepper Awards Show, which is a part of Fan Fest, on Jan. 11 at the Arlington Convention Center. The other award winners will be announced in the next few weeks.
