NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Newest Texas Rangers reliever Joakim Soria said he's hoping to return in late May as he rehabs from the second Tommy John surgery of his career.

Soria, who said he chose Texas based on proximity to his Arizona home and the fact that he believes the Rangers can win a World Series, said it's easier rehabbing from the surgery the second time.

Then, he rehabbed in Mexico on his own. Now, he's got plenty of folks keeping an eye on him and he's already been in contact with the Rangers' doctors and trainers to be sure he's progressing the way he should.

"I’m feeling good so far and we'll see how it goes," Soria said.

Soria said he talked with the Kansas City Royals about returning, but the offer "wasn't close" to what he wanted. He's talked to manager Ron Washington by phone and met with pitching coach Mike Maddux in Arlington.

The Rangers made the deal official Tuesday. Soria is signed to a two-year deal at $8 million guaranteed with a club option for a third year.
