SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers pitcher Colby Lewis talked briefly with team physician Dr. Keith Meister on Wednesday and said the plan, barring any setbacks in the long-toss regimen, is for him to get on a mound in early March.

If that's true, Lewis' timetable for a return could be closer to May than June, but he cautioned that it's way too early to know that for sure. Lewis wants to go through his progression and see if he continues to feel good.

He has one more long-toss session at 120 feet before he backs up to 135 feet and continues out to about 150 or 160 feet before he gets on the mound. Still, it's a sign that he's continuing to make progress seven months after undergoing surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his elbow.

"If I feel anything, I'll dial it back," Lewis said.

He noted it's not worth pushing through something if it means he can't be fully healthy when he returns.
