SURPRISE, Ariz.--Outfielder Engel Beltre had his shoulder examined by an orthopedist Tuesday. No structural damage was found, but team doctors are still determining if an MRI is necessary.
Beltre was diagnosed with a muscle strain in his rhomboid (shoulder), which has kept him sidelined for a week. Rangers management contacted Major League Baseball and informed them Beltre may be unavailable to represent Spain in the upcoming World Baseball Classic, but that has yet to be determined.
Beltre is one of seven Rangers slated to participate in the WBC.
