Yu Darvish (neck) feeling better, set to throw bullpen

MESA, Ariz. -- Texas Rangers right-hander Yu Darvish said his stiff neck felt better Tuesday.

He felt discomfort during a workout Sunday and was scratched from his scheduled start Monday.

Darvish did not throw Tuesday and Wednesday is an off day, so he will throw a bullpen session Thursday. The Rangers' staff will decide how to progress with Darvish after he throws.

Ron Washington addressed the issue earlier in the day and said he anticipated Darvish being on schedule to be ready for his first start in the regular season.

"It's not a big issue. If he is fine today, then he'll do a bullpen," Washington said. "If that goes well, Mike (Maddux) will pencil him back in the game Thursday or Friday. We'll let him pitch a couple of innings in the minors, shut him down and get him ready for his next start. A lot of it is going to depend on today. The neck wasn't that big of an issue, it was just precautionary."

Through three starts this spring, Darvish is 0-1 with a 1.04 ERA in 8 2/3 innings. He has allowed one run on five hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
