NEW YORK -- Jurickson Profar likely won’t be in the Texas Rangers' starting lineup until Thursday, manager Ron Washington said prior to Tuesday’s series-opener against the New York Yankees. Profar has not played since Thursday.

“We just came out of a National League park. My feelings on Profar haven’t changed,” Washington said. “I’ll mix him in games as we move forward.”

Washington said he couldn’t really get Profar in because second baseman Ian Kinsler had just returned, while shortstop Elvis Andrus continues to play extremely well. Profar, 20, is hitting .263 in 28 games.

Washington said Profar’s possible transition to the outfield is “still a work in progress.”

Pitching upgrades?: GM Jon Daniels met with reporters before the game and said that he could look to acquiring starting pitching with Alexi Ogando and Colby Lewis still on the mend, but is hopeful bullpen needs can be filled internally once Joakim Soria and Neftali Feliz return. Daniels called the bullpen the “strongest” part of the team this season.
