NEW YORK -- It was supposed to be a battle of phenom Japanese hurlers.

Instead, arguably the greatest Japanese major leaguer of all time stole the show.

Ichiro Suzuki hit a walk-off home run off Tanner Scheppers with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, propelling the New York Yankees to a 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium.

The loss snapped the Rangers’ five-game winning streak.

Bombed in the Bronx: This season, the injury-depleted Yankees have looked more like the Bronx Bloopers than the Bronx Bombers. Enter Yu Darvish. Darvish, pitching on six days’ rest, surrendered three home runs in a game for the first time in his career. Travis Hafner (fourth inning), Brett Gardner (fifth) and Jayson Nix (sixth) all took the right-hander deep for solo shots. Darvish has now surrendered 14 homers, tying last season’s total. He is winless in his past seven starts. Darvish’s final line: 5⅓ IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 110 pitches.

Yankee killer: Leonys Martin had the first multi-home run game of his young career, taking Hiroki Kuroda (6⅔ IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K) deep to right field in the third and fifth innings. The 25-year-old center fielder went in with just three lifetime homers. Martin has recorded at least one hit in 10 consecutive games.

E5: Adrian Beltre committed a pair of errors. He made a bad throw to Mitch Moreland after cleanly fielding a grounder in the fourth, then mishandled a line drive that went by him in the fifth. Beltre has committed eight errors this season.

Sir Lancelot: Lance Berkman went 1-for-4 after returning to the lineup following a four-game absence due to back and knee issues.

Nice job, Neal: Neal Cotts retired all five batters he faced in relief of Darvish -- four coming via strikeout. Cotts is currently sporting a minuscule 0.45 ERA.

Up next: Justin Grimm (6-5, 5.57 ERA) opposes left-hander Andy Pettitte (5-5, 4.20 ERA) in the second game of the series between the two teams Wednesday night. First pitch is at 6:05 CT on ESPN.
