Buzz: Jurickson Profar playing everywhere
Profar gets the start in Wednesday’s game against Baltimore in left field. This will be his second career game in the outfield (last Saturday was the first). He’s played five positions in his last seven games -- twice at shortstop and left field and once apiece at second base, designated hitter and third base. He said he’ll be ready for whatever and practices at all those positions regularly.
|Jim Bowden joins Ian Fitzsimmons and Tim MacMahon for his weekly visit to discuss how the Rangers are handling Yu Darvish heading into the All-Star break, the holes on their roster and an intriguing trade proposal that would bring Giancarlo Stanton to Texas.
Manager Ron Washington said the Rangers are glad to have someone who can be so versatile, and it helps Profar’s cause.
“He certainly makes himself more valuable by being able to go out there and be serviceable,” Washington said. “I think the more opportunities we give him to run behind some balls out there, the more confidence we’ll gain in him. Today is one of those days.”
Pitching update: Colby Lewis threw 45 pitches in batting practice Tuesday in his rehab from right flexor pronator surgery.
Lewis is scheduled to do it again Saturday when the Rangers are in Detroit. Rehab hasn’t been easy for Lewis; he’s tried twice and his last minor-league game on rehab was May 25.
“Overall, I felt like (my) arm felt great,” Lewis said before Tuesday’s game. “Definitely felt like I slumped off there towards the end, arm-strength wise. Just need to get more reps, go out there and continue to get stronger.”
Fun on the road: The Rangers come into Wednesday's game with the American League’s best road record.
Texas has won four straight road games and eight of nine to go to 26-18 away from home this year, the best 44-game road record in team history.
In addition, they’ve got the second-best road record in baseball, behind only St. Louis (28-18).
However, it’s hard to find a rhyme or reason for this. As long as the Rangers are winning, though, they’re happy.
“No theories; it’s hard to explain,” said pitcher Jason Frasor. “As a visiting team coming into Arlington, it wasn’t fun going and playing in Arlington, so (you’d) think the home record would be far and away better. In the end, it doesn’t matter -- as long as you’re getting your wins.”
