Daniels praises Wash's work this season

7/18/2013

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Rangers general manager Jon Daniels praised manager Ron Washington for the job he's done this season, keeping the club in contention in the American League West despite a number of injuries.

The Rangers are two games behind the Oakland A's in the American League West at the All-Star break despite having 16 players spend time on the disabled list. The Rangers currently have seven pitchers on the DL.

"Wash has done a tremendous job," Daniels said. "I was saying the other day he's done as good or a better job this year than he's ever done. Which is saying something because he's been very successful."

Daniels also noted that the Rangers have kept themselves in the division race despite regulars such as shortstop Elvis Andrus, left fielder David Murphy and designated hitter Lance Berkman all having down seasons compared tp their career numbers.

"You could argue four spots in the lineup you could probably expect bigger things based on their track records," Daniels said, "And to be two games out of first place and in a spot with a wild card possibility, we're in a pretty good spot."
