Extra Bases: Gentry makes most of chances

August, 23, 2013
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Craig Gentry's 426-foot home run he hit in Wednesday night's 5-4 victory over the Houston Astros was his version of a tape measure version.

"I couldn't have hit it one more foot," Gentry said. "I definitely put the best swing I possibly could on that pitch. I was able to square it up."

Gentry has been a force when he's started games or come off the bench this month. He has a .306/.432/.444/.876 slash line for the month of August. The Rangers are 15-4 in August.

Expect to see Gentry in the starting lineup the next three games against the Chicago White Sox with three left-handers starting.

"Whatever way I can contribute," said Gentry, who has reached base four of his last six pinch hit chances. "When the team wins, it's a great feeling. Top to bottom, we're going to pick each other up."

ON DECK: The Rangers will throw left-hander Martin Perez (6-3, 3.48) against the White Sox and ace Chris Sale (9-11, 2.78) at 7:10 p.m. Friday night on Ch. 21 and ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM.
