Matchup: Martin Perez vs. Francisco Liriano
Perez (9-3, 3.41 ERA): Perez will try to extend his Rangers' rookie record six-game winning streak Tuesday night. He gets an extra day's rest as Yu Darvish was moved in front of him in the rotation. Perez was spectacular again in his last start Tuesday against Oakland, beating the A's 5-1. Perez allowed one run on eight hits in seven innings. He had five strikeouts and no walks. The 22-year-old lefty has a 2.54 ERA during his winning streak and has 35 strikeouts and 13 walks, close to a 3-to-1 strikeouts-to-walks ratio. Perez has dominated right-handed hitters, holding them to a .245 batting average. Lefties are actually batting .300 against him. He is 2-1 with a 2.20 ERA in five starts at home.
Liriano (15-7, 2.98 ERA): Liriano has had a brilliant season for the Pirates, but he didn't pitch well in his last start Wednesday against Milwaukee. He allowed seven hits and seven runs in three innings against the Brewers. Liriano has allowed one earned run or less in 14 of his 22 starts. He has a decision in each of his his 22 starts. The 29-year-old left-hander has a career high in victories, bettering the 14 wins he had with Minnesota in 2010. He is 4-1 with a save and a 3.10 ERA in eight career games (six starts). He has won his past three starts against the Rangers, including a victory in July for Minnesota against Texas. Liriano allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings.
