Just a few weeks after Jermall Charlo scored a knockout win in a nationally televised fight last Thursday, his twin brother and fellow junior middleweight Jermell Charlo (21-0, 10 KOs) will be in action against New York southpaw Jose Angel Rodriguez.
The fight headlines a “Golden Boy Live” card on Oct. 14 (Fox Sports 1/Fox Deportes) at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Fla.
“Rodriguez is a tough veteran who has definitely fought quality opposition," said Houston’s Charlo, 23. “It's my job to make him look like an amateur and get him out of there. That's what I plan on doing on Oct. 14.”
For Rodriguez, the fight is a chance to derail one of boxing’s best junior middleweight prospects.
“This is a great opportunity,” Rodriguez said. “Now it's up to me to get the job done, and I'm more confident than ever that my hand will be raised.”
Rodriguez (17-2-1, 2 KOs), 34, has won two fights in a row and five of his last six, including a decision against former prospect Denis Douglin in January in his last bout.
