GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Green Bay Packers cornerback Casey Hayward made his long-awaited return to practice on Thursday.

Sort of.

Hayward
Officially, Hayward did not participate in the full-pads practice and nothing changed about his status for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions -- he remains out because of the hamstring injury he first sustained during a pre-training camp workout on his own and then aggravated in his only preseason appearance against the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 23.

But there was Hayward, in a full set of pads, out on the field doing some individual work on Thursday.

“It’s really frankly part of his rehab training,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said after Thursday’s practice.

But it was a sign that Hayward, who led all NFL rookies last season with six interceptions, could be on track to return against the Baltimore Ravens a week from Sunday.

“(He’s) making progress,” McCarthy said.
