Impact of Dalvin Cook's commitment to UF

4/8/2013

The commitment of ESPN Watch List running back Dalvin Cook (Miami/Miami Central) was very important for the Gators. Two factors come into play with Cook in the fold.

"Landing Cook was also a good sign in regards to Florida’s recruiting efforts down south," Zach Abolverdi of the Gainesville Sun wrote. "As expected, UF took a hit in the region with the resignation of recruiting coordinator and receivers coach Aubrey Hill, a Miami native, last August.

"The Gators didn’t sign any prospects from Miami-Dade or Broward county in the 2013 recruiting cycle, but that isn’t the case this year."

Wide receivers Jake McCrary (Miami/Coral Reef) and Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla./Homestead) are two prospects in the area Florida has offered. Both are in play for the Gators.

The addition of Cook also further establishes Florida as a program that plans to run the football first and foremost:

Florida's commitment to the run

"The Gators now have nine commits, including eight on the Watch List, but the Cook commitment was a big one. He said he thinks he'll be a very good fit in the UF offense, especially after watching the Gators' spring game and visiting with coach Will Muschamp.

'They gave the (running) back the ball,' Cook said. 'They gave (Kelvin Taylor) the ball a lot. I liked that. I actually saw them get after it. It was great seeing that. Coach told me that they didn't have the type of back that I am and that I could come in and be that guy.'"
