MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- It was one of those days for the Los Angeles Lakers.

It has been one of those seasons.

A day that started with a testy air-it-out meeting and a vow from Dwight Howard that the team would treat games Nos. 42-82 like a restarted season, after going 17-24 to begin the campaign, ended with Howard in the locker room nursing a shoulder injury for the entire second half of a 106-93 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.

If you thought it couldn't get any worse for the Lakers than their disappointing first half to the season, you might have to think again.

How it happened: The Lakers came out sharp, building a six-point lead in the first quarter, but it was short lived. By the time the first quarter was over, they trailed by one. By the time halftime came, they trailed by nine. By the time the game ended, they had lost by 13.

What it means: The Lakers are now 5-15 on the road, with three games coming up at home against Utah, Oklahoma City and New Orleans before they pack up again for seven straight away from Staples Center. If they're not buried already, that Grammys trip could be the thing to do it.

Hits: Kobe Bryant scored 29 points on 11-for-23 shooting to break out of his 25-for-79 shooting slump in the previous three games coming into Memphis.

Misses: The Lakers were outrebounded by 18 and had 15 turnovers against just 12 for the Grizzlies.

Stat of the night: Memphis' Darrell Arthur was a plus-22 as he had 20 points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench.

What's next: Judging by how this season has gone so far, more misery. Howard will have his shoulder evaluated Thursday in L.A. The Lakers play the Utah Jazz on Friday at home.
