Terry Collins indicated he wanted to start Justin Turner in Thursday's series finale at second base to ensure he gets playing time during the opening homestand. The Mets face exclusively right-handed starters this weekend against the Miami Marlins, so starting Turner today against southpaw starter Eric Stults made the most sense.

The manager added that Daniel Murphy is experiencing no issue with the strained intercostal muscle on his right side that tormented him during spring training.

Collins indicated he plans to get lefty hitters Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Mike Baxter and Jordany Valdespin a start apiece this weekend. The manager was unsure what position Valdespin would play.

Turner, by the way, will debut three new walk-up songs today in place of last year's staple, "Call Me Maybe." One was suggested by a grandmother who follows him on Twitter. Another came from his girlfriend. The third came from Jeff Wilpon's daughter.
