The lack of free-agent shortstop options means Ruben Tejada's chances of remaining shortstop on Opening Day in 2014 continue to improve.
A team official indicated the Mets still will seek a trade partner for a shortstop, but team officials are willing to accept using Tejada if need be.
Sandy Alderson recently alluded to the latter scenario, noting: "While shortstop is an obvious place for improvement, it’s not the only one. And if we’re successful elsewhere, as many clubs do, they get by on their strengths and hope to be as adequate as possible in those areas where they’re weaker.”
