Starter Pack: Rodgers' snap count revisited

The Green Bay Packers have been relatively secretive about their reasons for drastically reducing quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ playing time both in training camp and in preseason games.

Coach Mike McCarthy obviously wants to protect the team’s $110 million investment but until this summer, he had been fairly consistent with Rodgers’ summertime workload.

So why mess with a plan that has allowed Rodgers to be so successful since he became a starter in 2008?

Whatever the reason, it’s been a significant change, as we pointed out by noting that only two presumptive opening-day starting quarterbacks have played less in the preseason this year than Rodgers.
