The daily roundup of what’s happening on the Packers beat.
Almost all of us on the sideline at practice on Tuesday, the final day of training camp, thought Mason Crosby was perfect on 14 field goal attempts. From the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Tom Silverstein to the Green Bay Press-Gazette’s Mike Vandermause to ESPNMilwaukee.com’s Jason Wilde to yours truly, every one of us wrote that Crosby didn’t miss.
But it appears we all may have given him too much credit.
There were a few skeptics who thought Crosby may have missed the 58-yarder into the wind. According to video captured by Justin Felder of WLUK-TV in Green Bay, those skeptics may have been correct. Felder posted two Vine videos of the kick -- one of the entire kick and another of the final few seconds in slow motion. The videos won’t go down in history with Abraham Zapruder's, but they do appear to confirm that Crosby wasn’t perfect.
Or do they?
The ball hit the net, which was blown back by the wind. Did the net prevent the ball from going through the uprights? Or would it have been short anyway?
In the end, it probably doesn’t matter because Crosby has kicked well enough of late to be the last man standing in the kicking competition, unless, of course, he melts down in Thursday’s preseason finale at Kansas City.
The rest of our ESPN.com coverage included the news of DuJuan Harris’ surprising season-ending injury and how it will change the one-two punch coach Mike McCarthy had planned for the running game, plus the roster moves the Packers made to get down to 75 players.
In the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Weston Hodkiewicz leads his notebook with a look at the players who went on PUP, including former first-round draft pick Derek Sherrod. Pete Dougherty listed his standouts and disappointments from training camp.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s coverage was highlighted by Tyler Dunne’s profile of roster hopeful Chris Banjo, who takes inspiration from his late mother, who died in 2010.
At ESPNMilwaukee.com, Wilde noted how downtrodden McCarthy appeared when he revealed the severity of Harris’ injury.
