Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco went from a news conference in New Orleans to a parade at Walt Disney World to an appearance on the "Late Show" with David Letterman in a span of 12 hours.
That's the life (or at least the first day) of being the Super Bowl MVP.
If his interview with Letterman is any indication, his newfound celebrity isn't going to change him. Was it must-see TV? Absolutely not. Was Flacco entertaining? I chuckled a few times. What stood out to me was that Flacco didn't try to be someone else. He's not going to force being funny, which never ends well. He always has this matter-of-fact attitude about him.
One highlight was when Letterman asked him if playing quarterback was as hard as it seemed. "An NFL playbook is much easier than people make it out to be," he said. "Come on, we're football players."
Letterman also asked him about Ray Lewis' antics. Flacco laughed and said, “Well, half the time, I don’t know."
Of course, Flacco's contract situation was brought up as well. Flacco talked about turning down an offer before this season, saying: "Well ... when I wasn't signing what they wanted me to sign, [owner Steve Bisciotti] said, 'Listen, when the time comes, I mean, you come and beat on my desk,' and I said, 'All right, I'll take you up on that,' and I think the time has come."
Yes, Flacco doesn't have the charisma of Aaron Rodgers. His own father calls him dull. But there is something to be said for Flacco being the same old Joe.
