Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said Thursday that cornerback Darrelle Revis will be on the field “in some capacity’’ when the team opens training camp next week.

Revis is recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season, and I wouldn’t take Schiano’s words to mean that Revis will be asked to go all out on the first day of camp. I think the priority is to make sure Revis is ready for the regular-season opener against his former team, the New York Jets.

Schiano said defensive end Adrian Clayborn and guards Carl Nicks and Davin Joseph, who also are coming off injuries, are in similar situations to Revis.

In other words, the Bucs might use caution and limit some of the veterans recovering from injuries early in camp. But Schiano said all four of those players have progressed well.
