NICK LIDSTROM COMMITS TO RED WINGS ALUMNI GAME
… Former Red Wings Captain to Skate in Alumni Doubleheader against Toronto on Dec. 30 …

Detroit, MI... Four-time Stanley Cup champion and seven-time Norris Trophy winner Nick Lidstrom has committed to play in the 2013 Maple Leafs vs. Red Wings Alumni Showdown on Monday, Dec. 30 at Comerica Park. Lidstrom joins many former teammates who will take part in the contest, which is part of a series of games that leads up to the 2014 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic between the Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Lidstrom spent his entire 20-year NHL career with the Red Wings, serving as the team’s captain from 2006-12. He finished his career as the franchise’s all-time highest scoring defenseman, racking up 1,142 points (264-878-1142) in 1,564 games. In addition to his role as a cornerstone on the team’s blueline for its championships in 1997, 1998 and 2002, he became the first European captain ever to hoist the Stanley Cup in 2008. He sits second in franchise history with 183 points (54-129-183) in 263 games, as the Red Wings never missed the playoffs during his career.

Originally drafted by Detroit in the third round (53rd overall) of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft, Lidstrom holds the NHL record for most regular season games played with only one team. He was also the first European-born and trained player to win the Norris Trophy (2001), the Conn Smythe (2002) or reach 1,000 points. He is a 12-time NHL All-Star, 10-time member of the NHL First All-Star Team, two-time NHL member of the NHL Second All-Star Team and is part of the exclusive Triple Gold Club with a Stanley Cup championship, a World Championship gold medal (1991) and Olympic Gold Medal (2006).
