Bob Diaco notches two awards

December, 4, 2012
If Monday was Manti Te'o Day, Tuesday may be Bob Diaco Day.

Notre Dame's associate head coach and defensive coordinator notched a pair of honors: the Frank Broyles Award and the FootballScoop Defensive Coordinator of the Year award.

The Broyles Award goes to the nation's best assistant coach.

"It's a life-long dream for me," Diaco said in an interview the award's Twitter page linked to following the ceremony. "All I ever really wanted to be was a great servant to the players and a great servant to the head coach. And this award is specific in that it only is acknowledging that job well done. I sit here, I represent a fantastic job the offense did protecting the defense, a fantastic, spectacular defensive staff and a group of players that are second to none, so it's an honor. I really sit here and just represent that."

Diaco and his pupil, Te'o, may have to slug it out for who has a better week, depending on the next few days.

Te'o is touring the award circuit, appearing in a different city every day this week for a number of national ceremonies, while Diaco is one of three finalists for Boston College's vacant head-coaching position, colleague Brett McMurphy reports.
