The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder is the first 2014 tight end commit for the school that has become widely known as Tight End U, and he was the third tight end from the state of Illinois to make a college choice Tuesday, as Ian Bunting (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale) and Daniel Helm (Chatham, Ill./Glenwood) committed to Michigan and Tennessee, respectively.
As the No. 7 tight end in the nation, he is the Irish's highest-ranked recruit among his position group.
Here is a list of all seven Irish commitments from this class. Andrew Trumbetti is the only current ESPN150 member.
Four-star DE Andrew Trumbetti (Demarest, N.J./Demarest)
Four-star ILB Greer Martini (Woodberry Forest, Va./Woodberry Forest)
Four-star OG Sam Mustipher (Olney, Md./Our Lady of Good Counsel)
Four-star WR Justin Brent (Speedway, Ind./Speedway)
Four-star OT Jay Hayes (Brooklyn, N.Y./Poly Prep)
Three-star TE Nic Weishar (Chicago/Marist)
Three-star OT Jimmy Byrne (Cleveland/Saint Ignatius)
Three-star tight end Nic Weishar (Chicago, Marist) became the latest member of Notre Dame's 2014 recruiting class late Tuesday night, colleague Chantel Jennings reports .
