Irish ranked 11th in coaches poll

August, 1, 2013
Notre Dame checked in at No. 11 in the preseason USA Today Sports Coaches Poll, released Thursday afternoon.

Two-time defending national champion Alabama topped the poll, obtaining 58 of 62 first-place votes. No. 2 Ohio State (three votes) and No. 6 Texas A&M (one vote) notched the other first-place votes.

Four Irish opponents this fall cracked the top 25 as well: No. 4 Stanford, No. 16 Oklahoma, No. 17 Michigan and No. 24 USC.

Other Irish opponents Michigan State, Arizona State and BYU all received votes as well, technically faring 28th, 32nd and 36th overall.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly is one of the 62 coaches who has a vote in the poll.

Notre Dame was 24th in last year's preseason coaches poll and finished No. 3 in the final poll.

The Irish were unranked last season in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll before finishing fourth. This year's AP preseason poll will not be released until Aug. 17.
