The countdown continues on my list of the top 10 Seahawks in franchise history. Current players on the Super-Bowl winning team are not included. One other requirement is the man had to play at least five seasons for the Seahawks.
No. 7: Safety Kenny Easley
Years in Seattle: 1981-87
Acquired: First-round draft pick in 1981
Accomplishments: NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1984 ... Five Pro Bowl selections ... Tied the team record for interceptions in a season with 10 in 1984 … Inducted into the Seahawks Ring of Honor in 2002 … Intercepted three passes against San Diego on Oct. 29, 1984 … Tied for the team record with interceptions in four consecutive games … Selected to the NFL’s All-Decade Team for the 1980s … AFC Defensive Rookie of the Year in 1981.
Easley lived up to all the expectations when he was the fourth player picked overall in the 1981 NFL draft. He played only seven pro seasons because of kidney disease, but made his mark as the best strong safety in the game during his tenure.
Easley had 32 interceptions, 498 tackles, 10 forced fumbles and nine fumbles recovered. Easley also returned 26 punts in his career for an average of 11.6 per return.
