The Auburn Tigers are on the docket today in our offseason spotlight series.

Spotlight: Quarterback Kiehl Frazier, 6-2, 226 pounds, rising junior.

2012 summary: Frazier started in the Tigers' first five games last season, but was replaced by Clint Moseley. Frazier played sparingly after being benched and finished the season with 753 passing yards, two touchdown passes and eight interceptions. He completed 53.4 percent of his passes.

The skinny: There wasn't much about Auburn's season last year that went right, and that was especially true of the quarterback play and passing game in general. The Tigers finished with eight touchdown passes and 15 interceptions. Frazier just never played with any consistency in Scot Loeffler's offense and was benched. Moseley has since left the program, which leaves sophomore Jonathan Wallace to battle with Frazier this spring. Wallace started the final four games last season as a true freshman and threw four touchdown passes and four interceptions. New offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee has said the slate will be wiped clean for everybody, and the reality is that it will be a five-man race for the starting quarterback job when the three newcomers arrive in the summer -- junior college transfer Nick Marshall, a former defensive back at Georgia, and freshmen Jeremy Johnson and Jason Smith. But this spring, Frazier and Wallace will occupy center stage. Frazier was thought to be the Tigers' quarterback of the future when they signed him out of Springdale, Ark., and first-year head coach Gus Malzahn was Auburn's offensive coordinator at the time. Frazier would seem to be better suited for Malzahn's offense than he was for Loeffler's system. Either way, he needs to prove that he can be a much more effective passer over these next six months if he's going to get another shot as the Tigers' starter in the fall.
