We are halfway through the season so it's time to take a look at who has been the best of the best around the country.

ESPN colleague Mark Schlabach took a stab at that with his Midseason All-America Team. Six players from the SEC made the cut, with Alabama and Texas A&M both leading the conference with two selections each:

WR: Mike Evans, Texas A&M
OT: Jake Matthews, Texas A&M
DL: Michael Sam, Missouri
LB: C.J. Mosley, Alabama
S: Vinnie Sunseri, Alabama
AP: Odell Beckham Jr., LSU

But who's missing? Oh, I don't know, just the country's best player: Johnny Manziel. Marcus Mariota leads the way as the team's No. 1 quarterback, and he has had a great year, but Manziel is just a different animal at QB. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has been an absolute stud this season and has 2,273 yards of offense and 19 touchdowns. He's averaging 378.8 yards and 3.2 touchdowns per game and has completed 73.2 percent of his passes.

You can't let him sit in the pocket or he'll pick you apart with his arm. You can't bring too much pressure or he'll eat you alive with his legs. But don't ask me, just ask every defense he's had to face this year.
