Pedroia won't need surgery

BOSTON -- Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is not expected to need surgery to insert a pin in the fractured bone in his left foot, the team said Monday night.

Red Sox medical director Thomas Gill examined Pedroia on Monday in Boston and confirmed the fracture of the medial navicular bone in his left foot. He is expected to miss six weeks.
