No Red Sox offer for Jayson Werth?

The Boston Red Sox did not make a formal offer to free agent Jayson Werth during their face-to-face meeting Wednesday with Werth and his agent, Scott Boras, a source familiar with the meeting told ESPN.com on Thursday.

The main purpose of the meeting, the source said, was simply to give Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein and manager Terry Francona a chance to get to know Werth and provide a forum for Werth to get to know them.
