NEW YORK -- Red Sox players Josh Beckett, Mike Cameron, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis were all fined for their role in a benches-clearing melee at Fenway Park on Tuesday night against the Cleveland Indians.

Indians third base coach Steve Smith has been suspended for two games and was also fined.

Bob Watson, baseball's vice president for discipline, cited Smith for "inappropriate and aggressive actions" during the game, when Smith and pitcher John Beckett were ejected. The trouble began after a pitch by Indians reliever Jensen Lewis sailed behind Adrian Beltre.

Lewis was also fined.

"The DL guys [Cameron, Pedroia and Youkilis] have to get fined," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "We understand that. The league does what it needs to do and our players do what they need to do because we are a team. Just pay the fine."
