TORONTO -- Barring any unforeseen problems, Boston Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia, who has been out since late June with a broken bone in his foot, will rejoin the team for Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.

The plan is for Pedroia to fly to Boston on Thursday, be examined on Friday, play second base for Triple-A Pawtucket on Saturday, then DH for Pawtucket on Sunday, manager Terry Francona said before Wednesday's game at Toronto. The rehab games are contingent on Friday's exam going well, and if Pedroia comes through the two games with Pawtucket OK, he should join the Red Sox on Tuesday.

Pedroia has a noon appointment on Friday. He will undergo an X-ray and, if necessary, an MRI.

On Wednesday, Pedroia fielded, hit and ran, and did "very well," Francona said.

Pedroia last played June 25 in San Francisco, when he fouled a ball off his left foot. If he plays Tuesday, his return would be seven weeks and four days after suffering the injury.

Pedroia is batting .292 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs in 73 games this year.
